God is in the details

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. Job 12:7-10

I love how God is in the details.  There are so many intricacies in the Bible.  From the exact dimensions of the tabernacle to the priests garments, God cares about every little thing.

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to tour a dairy farm.  It is a world that we know little about.  We go to our local Walmart, and pick up our milk in a container, after the fat content has been removed.   We had the opportunity to see what a production it is to milk 1500 cows a day.  A cow is milked twice a day and produces 100 pounds (12 gallons) every twenty four hours!

One farm even had robotic milkers.  Lasers scanned the utters and automatically hooked them up to be milked. I found it all rather fascinating.

The purpose of manure

The most amazing thing to me though, was that nothing is wasted.  Manure is rinsed to an area, then pumped to a location, where the methane gas that evaporates off of it, is turned into energy.  Isn’t that crazy cool?  A waste product, that I knew was used to fertilize and cause a plant to grow, can also produce a product that can run your electricity!

Don’t get me wrong, I can’t explain it.  I don’t know the first thing about the science behind it, but man, I was intrigued. God not only created the cow to provide nutrients for us, but even what the cow doesn’t use has a purpose.

Examples in creation

God’s creation is full of visual examples of his glory, and how he cares and loves us.  From the sheer number of flowers species being 400,000, to the metamorphis of a butterfly, nature is full of reminders that he is present and trustworthy.  His word tells us,

“Consider the ravens:  They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them.  And how much more valuable you are than birds!”  Luke 12:24

and His word points us to a mere ant, on how to live.

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.” Proverbs 6:6-8

I love the live version of this song. It makes me imagine what Heaven will be like when we are all worshipping God together.

Let’s remember the lessons from nature

We pay attention to nature more here in the midwest.  If it is hotter in summer, they say it is a prediction of more snow in winter, when the geese fly south six weeks earlier than normal, it is evidence that winter is on its way.

If God is great enough to be so intricate in the details of creation, He is great enough to handle our lives. May we trust him with the details today, and know that even the manure has a purpose and will be used!

On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.”  Psalm 145:5
