God knows our needs. He knows when we are afraid, and when we need his presence in a big way. He wants to make himself known to us.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7
It was a big day. The day before surgery that would either save my mom’s life or take it. The heaviness of tears was imminent. Palpable. I was rehearsing all of God’s promises, and all I knew of him, but I was having trouble shaking the reality of the upcoming few weeks.
We waited for a doctor I had never met and my soul was anxious. I had no idea the divine appointment that had been made. Dr. Hart walked in peaceful and full of compassion, and simply pointed his finger in the air. In that doctor’s office, he reminded us that God had guided my mom’s steps to his office; where a problem was found, and able to be dealt with, prior to any devastating outcome.
As we sat afraid of what was unfolding, he gave God all the glory, and without question, unapologetically he got on his knees and prayed to the only one who had control over the outcome.
In that room, he could not meet a physical need, but he met a spiritual one. He invited the healer, the waymaker, to be present and to comfort like only He can.
It didn’t make sense, but leaving the doctor’s office the uneasiness had been replaced with peace. As the day continued, God’s hand was so evident we found ourselves laughing.
In this life we face many battles. Things that can take us out at our knees. We can feel alone and broken beneath the weight, but there are armies of angels protecting, encouraging, and guiding us.
In 2 King 6:14-17 Elisha faced an army and was scared that he was outnumbered. However; God opened his eyes to see the angel armies that were there to protect him.
God, open our eyes. Help us to see that we are not alone. You are holding us, and ever present in our circumstances. Thank you for using people and situations to remind us that you are near.
BUT God!
I’m grateful for the many moments that remind us HE is with us in our fears and anxious times!
