You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
As I sat in bible study with dear friends, I voiced “I wish God would just get on the loud speaker and make it clear what I am supposed to do”.
Have you ever wished Jesus would write what you were supposed to do in lipstick on your bathroom mirror?
Time was running out, and I needed to make a decision. I didn’t want to make the wrong one, so I was trying to wait for clarity. There were still so many unanswered questions. Fear of stepping out in faith if it was really just my desire, and not God’s will, was causing me to be indecisive.
There are times in our lives when we wonder if the thing in our heart is of God. There is a little stirring that grows into a dream, and we wonder if this seed is part of God’s plan for us. Yet, we don’t have clarity. We look for signs and read our Bible, seeking an answer of what to do and where to go from here, but it isn’t always clear.
Elijah was feeling defeated. Although, he was coming off of a victory for God (1 Kings 18:20-40), it lead to him running for his life. He was tired and feeling defeated. It seemed he was the only one left who was living for God.
So what does he do now? He is ready to throw in the towel, and actually asks God to “Just kill me now”.
Elijah didn’t know what to do. He needed God’s wisdom; for God to reveal His plan. Elijah looked for God’s voice in the wind, the earthquake, and the fire.
He found it in the quiet (1Kings 19:11-15)
At times in my life God has been gracious enough to deliver an answer loud and clear, but at other times it was a longer process. It took digging into God’s word (Proverbs is a good place to start), and wise counsel from friends with God given authority in my life. Often He has used christian music to speak to my soul, and books I have read came at just the right moment to speak to the need at hand.
When you are paying attention and looking for his still small voice you will find Him. It just may take a little time. Don’t give up! Draw near to the Lord and He will draw near to you James 4:8.
